Foundation Activities: Collection & Archive of Original Materials

At TITAF, we merge profound expertise with a fresh approach to preserving historical materials!

Since 2013, we've been actively archiving and digitizing music from Tango Argentino/rioplatense, sourcing from both shellac and vinyl records, supplemented by scores and books.

But that's not enough!

The slow process of digitizing analog material is a race against time: shellacs are lost, break, or disappear from the market. Our goal is to preserve and make accessible this wonderful material in audio and print for current and future generations. We do not merely place the artifacts in a museum; we bring the music back onto the dance floor.

For us, archiving means the opposite of gathering dust: before we store the original material in a dark and dry place, it is cleaned, photographed, catalogued, and finally digitized. This is a process that requires substantial knowledge, time, and financial resources, and is hardly automatable because it demands expertise, a good ear, and flexibility: every orchestra is different, as is every era and each individual shellac.

At TITAF, we combine expertise and experience with a new approach to old material: For almost a decade, we have been digitizing old material at TangoTunes and offering it especially for Tango DJs and dancers, as well as for everyone who appreciates good music quality, for sale as downloads on tangotunes.com. With some detours, several improvements, and an incomparable result!

The expertise from these 10 years of experience is directly integrated into the project by our founder, Christian Xell. TITAF ensures the continuation of this valuable knowledge.
