We run against time!

HELP US PRESERVE TANGO MUSIC!

With your support, the Tango Argentino heritage can be preserved for future generations.

Why help? The right time is now!

IT STARTS WITH THE MUSIC

Tango Argentino  its music and dance – has its origin in Buenos Aires (ARG) and Montevideo (URY) at the beginning of the last century and its passion and fascination has since spread all over the world. Today, most music played at dance events like milongas and festivals is from the so-called Golden Era, which dates from the early 1930s to the mid 1940s.

Tango has been declared world heritage in 2009 and it is crucial that this great culture is saved, maintained and continued for future generations.

The International Tango Argentino Foundation (TITAF) is mainly dedicated to the restoration of music and to raise the audio quality in thousands of Tango events happening every day throughout the world.

TITAF cares for a better audio experience at Tango events all over the world!

FRAGILE MATERIAL

In Tango Argentino, we work with delicate original material: shellac records. Made out of the fragile resin shellac and almost 100 years old, these records can easily scratch and break. Once damaged, they cannot be repaired without loss of quality.

Therefore, it is crucial to preserve the material in its original state as soon as possible and to transfer the music into a digital format according to international archiving standards for audio material.

95 % of the traditional Tango music was originally published on shellacs!

LOST COLLECTIONS

Not only do shellacs get damaged or broken, they also get lost! Entire record collections end up on the bulky waste, burn or disappear.

It is important that these collections of Tango shellacs are purchased by professional institutions like ours, that the collectors – often the heirs – are adequately remunerated and that the collections are stored in such a way that they are protected as far as possible against loss and damage.

This all requires a good knowledge of the market situation, deep knowledge of Tango history and discographies and – not least – a good connection to collectors and an excellent reputation – all of which TITAF can provide.

As of 2020, in the Grand Buenos Aires area there are no more than 6 big collections known of.

Every shellac deserves its right transfer.

Let's face it: If we don't act now, there is a high chance a lot of the material will be gone in 10 years' time.
